Prof. Michael Poyurovsky

 

Prof. Michael Poyurovsky – is Head of the OCD Clinic – the center for advanced treatment of obsessive-compulsive, and other mental disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and addictions. Prof. Poyurovsky also heads the Department of First Admissions and the Research Unit at a state psychiatric hospital, and is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. Professional affiliations: Member of the Israel Psychiatric Association, Israel Society of Biological Psychiatry, International Association of Schizophrenia Research, and the International Association of OCD Research. Prof. Poyurovsky is an eminent psychiatric specialist, well - known in Israel and abroad for his expertise as a diagnostician and in administration of psychopharmacological therapy especially for obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia and complex conditions of the co-occurrence of the two disorders. His latest book Schizo-Obsessive Disorder (Cambridge University Press, 2013) is based on over twenty years of clinical experience and presents unique treatment methods for this complex disorder. Successful treatment of numerous patients testifies to the efficiency of the diagnostic and treatment methods that he has developed. Prof. Poyurovsky is a widely acclaimed international consultant for novel treatments of patients with complicated psychiatric disorders. In his research and clinical practice Prof. Poyurovsly focuses on the development of state-of-the-art pharmacologic treatments with emphasis on efficacious and safe therapy. As described in an editorial in the British Journal of Psychiatry, Prof. Poyurovsky developed innovative therapies for the treatment of motor disorders such as akathisia, that are common side-effects of antipsychotic medications. His deep concern for the welfare of his patients is reflected in the two booklets he has published for patients and their families: Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder (Prologue Publishers, Israel). Prof. Poyurovsky receives patients in his clinics in Tel-Aviv and in Haifa.
